International News: 6 May, 2002

Todays news comes from Nate Holynski.

Just some quick notes

Tomoaki Honma is still yet to record a victory in his All Japan 5 match trial, losing to Taiyo Kea in only 4 minutes and 34 seconds.

Kodo Fuyuki's first WEW card was held on the 5/5/2002 (How ironic, 5/5 always used to be big shows for the now defunct FMW. Now Fuyuki - the booker of FMW in the last years of that once proud promotion resurects the tradition in WEW). The show was a big line up of legends in the business highlights were:

Yoshinari Ogawa & Mitsuharu Misawa d. Masao Inoue & Tamon Honda
Akira Taue d. Tetsuhiro Kuroda Vader d. Kintaro Kanemura (To be honest I wouldn't mind seeing this match as I've always had a lot of respect for big Leon, even though he is getting a little older now. Would be an interesting match considering Kanemura has looked a lot better in recent times)
Shinjiro Otani & Shinya Hashimoto d. Great Sasuke & Atsushi Onita (Ohtani over Onita! WOW! This would have been awesome to watch. Four legends in the wrestling business in the ring at the same time, and I'm a big fan of all four. The Zero One boys getting the victory here at 10 minutes and 41 seconds... (Keep an eye out on the site for the next few days. I'll have a review of Daisuke Sekimoto and Shinjiro Ohtani's Fire Festival match From Zero One on Samurai TV, 4 September, 2001 up)

As I hoped for and predictated earlier in the week Hido will represent Block B in the finals of The World Extreme Cup. He deafted 2 Tuff Tony at Korakuen Hall on the 5/5/2002.

Another result from the show saw Ryuji Yamakawa & Shadow WX d. Abdullah Kobayashi & Mad Man Pondo - Although Pondo can't really work (although the man will take anything offered), the other three guys would have carried him for a decent DM in my eyes.

Interesting to see who goes through to the final of the World Extreme Cup tourny tommorrow as it's either Shadow WX or Homoicide. Whoever wins their match today (tomorrow in Japan) will join Hido from Block B.

Some really quick results:

Toryumon: 5 May, 2002
Dragon Kid Double Countout with Ryo Saito
Kenichiro Arai & Masaaki Mochizuki d. Stalker Ishikawa & Magnum Tokyo - Arai getting it over Stalker
Taru, Don Fuji & CIMA d. Genki Horiguchi, Darkness Dragon & Susumu Yokosuka - CIMA over Genki

US Indy News

Liberty All Star announed it's folding, but may open in the near future. No time frame was given. If you ask me you won't see them re-open again.

From the 3 May, 2002 in Calagary Stampede Wrestling had a show in honour of Stu Hart's birthday the main event saw Bruce Hart (suprise, suprise) and his partner T.J. Wilson go over Dave Sift and Apocalypse.

Thanks, Nate.
